HOLD FAST

HOLD FAST

Hebrews 10:23—Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised.

Knowing the uncertainty of the future should serve as inspiration to each of us to be diligent and zealous in holding fast to our faith. In our effort to do so, we must be strong, courageous and confident in the profession and practice of our faith (Eph. 6:10. Proverbs 14:26, Heb. 3:6, 2 Tim. 1:12). Holding fast to our profession of faith without wavering, we must steadfastly walk in the steps of the Lord (1 Peter 2:21), we must stand firmly on the word of God (1 Tim. 4:16, Titus 2:1. Gal. 1:6) and we must put into practice what we preach (James 1:22-25, James 2:14-20). Holding fast to our profession of faith is not just some kind of emotional feeling; it is an actual demonstration of our love and obedience to our Savior (John 14:15, John 15:14, Heb. 5:8-9)..

Holding fast to our profession of faith without wavering is not going to be easy but it must be done if we are to one day go home to be with the Lord (John 14:1-3, 2 Corinthians 5:6-9). Holding fast means to be diligent, cling to, take a firm grasp. To me, the thought of clinging to or having a firm grasp, equates to holding on to our profession of faith with a vice like grip, so tenacious that we will not falter or give up whatever struggle we find ourselves in. By doing so, we will be setting an example for others to follow (1 Cor. 11:1, 1 Tim. 4:12); we will be a shining light that will lead others to glorify the Lord (Matthew 5:14-16). When we fold up this earthly tent, this is the greatest legacy we can leave for our family, far greater than any material possessions!

Every waking moment we walk in harm’s way because our adversary, the devil, is seeking tirelessly to consume us (1 Peter 5:6). I love to sing, “Just a closer walk with thee, Grant it Jesus is my plea, Daily let it ever be, Just a closer walk with thee.” If we are going to have that closer walk that will enable us to one day gain the greatest victory imaginable, we must hold fast to our faith without wavering every waking moment. Perseverance is going to be the keyword as we seek to hold on to our profession of faith without wavering (Hebrews 12:1-3)

This is one of the great commitments we make while we live and breathe in this earthly life. It is a commitment to let the Lord have full possession of our life (2 Cor. 8:5, Rom. 12:1-2, Romans 6:11-13, Luke 9:23). It is a commitment to always focus on spiritual things (Col. 3:1-2, Matthew 6:19-21, Matthew 6:33; 2 Peter 1:5-11). I suppose that in the simplest of terms it is a commitment to humble ourself under the mighty hand of God (1 Peter 5:6).

Our earthly journey is one day going to come to end (Eccl. 9:5, Hebrews 9:27). We should not be anxious as to when or how this will happen. Our major concern should be on whether or not we are ready to exit this world and enter the world that will never end. If we hold fast to the profession of our faith without wavering, what a journey that will be for us! I leave you with this thought from 2 Chronicles 15:7, But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.
