What Sort of People Should We Be

....what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness (2 Peter 3:11)

As children of God we are a chosen race, an holy nation, a people for God's possession (1 Peter 2:9). We enjoy some marvelous blessings from God and should ever be praising him for his love, mercy and goodness he so bountifully bestows upon us (Romans 5:8; 1 Peter 1:3; 2 John 3; Psalms 107:8; 1 Peter 4:11; Colossians 1:12-14; 2 Peter 1:4). It is only reasonable for the Lord to expect you and I to be the kind of people that will bring honor and glory to him (Matthew 5:16; 1 Corinthians 6:20).  With that thought in mind, consider the following as to the sort of people we should be:

*People who stand firm in the faith, determined to do right according to God's word never compromising or altering that word in any way whether it be in the spiritual realm or in our everyday secular life (Gal. 5:1; 2 Tim. 1:13-14; Heb. 3:6; 2 John 9; 1 John 2:15-17; Romans 12:2).

*People who willingly and enthusiastically accept and discharge the responsibility to be an example to others in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity (1 Tim. 4:12)

*People who cheerfully and willingly set the example for others to follow in commitment, work, prayer (Mark 12:30-31; Matthew 6:33; 1 Corinthians 15:58; Phil. 4:6; 1 Thess. 5:17; 2 Cor. 9:6-7; 2 Cor. 8:1-7).

*People who strive to walk in such a way that their conduct will lead others to glorify our God who is the rock of our salvation (Matthew 5:13-16; Eph. 4:25-32; 1 Thess. 5:14-22; Eph. 5:1-2; Prov. 4:13)

*People who have the courage and vision to launch out into the deep spiritually trusting God to bless our efforts to honor and glorify him (Luke 5:1-7; Prov. 29:18). If we aim for nothing, we will hit it every time.

*People who are willing to humble themselves and let God have full possession of our life. Always yielding to him, letting his word fill our heart, mold our thoughts and guide our life every step of the way (1 Peter 5:6; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 12:1).

What sort of person should we be? A most interesting and intriguing question indeed and one that should command our attention if we want to honor and glorify our God.
