WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE OUGHT WE TO BE?

As I was searching through some of the articles in my file, I ran across one that caught my attention. It is entitled WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE OUGHT WE TO BE?
You may recall something the Apostle Peter said in his second letter:  "Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE OUGHT YOU TO BE IN LIVES OF HOLINESS AND GODLINESS." (2 Peter 3:11)

As you may remember, the Apostle was relating things which will happen  when the end of this world comes and Jesus comes again. (v 1-10).  Mockers were questioning the reality of God's promise because so much time had elapsed with nothing occurring.  The Apostle answers by reminding them of God's previous judgment in Noah's day which caught an unbelieving world off guard.  That same God, by His same powerful Word, will come again with fire instead of water.

So, we OUGHT TO BE A PEOPLE :

WHO REMEMBER GOD'S WORD...God's Word, when remembered, is "profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness, that the MAN OF GOD MAY BE COMPLETE, furnished unto every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16,17)

WHO TAKE GOD'S WARNINGS TO HEART...(3-7) He reminds them of those who forget the mighty works of a global judgment in the days of Noah, distorting their view toward other promises of God Concerning God's Law, he instructs His people..."..to teach their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them of their children, so that they should set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments. " (Psalm 78:5-7)

WHO BELIEVE THAT GOD IS TRUSTWORTHY TO KEEP HIS PROMISES (8-9)   Peter said, "Forget not this one thing beloved"  God does not operate on our time schedule, but on His own -- "But the day of the Lord will come" (v10). He doesn't wish any to perish, but for all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).
When He makes a promise we can count on it. He does not lie (Titus 1:2). Let us strive for the faith of Abraham, one "looking to the promise of God, he wavered not through unbelief but waxed strong through faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what He had promised, He was able also to perform" (Romans 4:20,21)

As Christians we ought to be people earnestly looking for our Lord to return.  Therefore, we must be preparing, "looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God" (2 Peter 3:12)

Please think about these things with me today -- we know not when that day will be, only that He has promised it will come!!!
