Importance of Truth

Importance of Truth

Have you ever noticed how many times the word TRUTH is found in God's Word?  I think, perhaps, a simple definition of that word might be God's standard for our lives, both now and in eternity.  It's used many times to inform us of what's most important to our God, and should be in our lives as well.  Let us notice a few ways its used in the Inspired Scriptures.

Truth is the Good News of the Gospel.  "In Him, you also, after listening to the MESSAGE OF TRUTH, the Gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, " (Ephesians 1:13)

Truth sets us apart from sin, and for use in His Kingdom.  "Sanctify them in the TRUTH; Thy word is TRUTH" (John 17:17)

Truth is the message Jesus told them would set men free from sin. "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH shall make you free." (John 8:31,32)

Jesus said , "I am the way, and THE TRUTH, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6)

Jesus told His apostles before He suffered death on the cross an important TRUTH.  "But when He, the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the TRUTH" (John 16:13)

We then find God's TRUTH revealing to us how important it is to know, believe, and live by in our lives now and for a life of eternity with Him.

"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us EVERYTHING PERTAINING TO LIFE AND GODLINESS, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." (2 Peter 1:2,3)

The Apostle John probably used the word TRUTH more than any of the others.  He teaches us in First John, chapter one, its walking in TRUTH that provides us fellowship with the Father and The Son. (v5-8).  A bit later in that letter, John writes these words:

"As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you will also abide in the Son and in the Father."  (1 John 2:24)

It was the TRUTH , the Gospel message, preached by the Apostles beginning soon after Jesus had gone back to heaven to be with the Father. (Acts 2)

Without the TRUTH we would be without salvation, and without hope of eternal life with the Father and Son.  Much more could be said, but I think we all learn the importance of TRUTH, and how God has given us that as the way to live now and make heaven our true home.
